Sugarscape Model (1996)
A classic artificial society model developed by Joshua Epstein and Robert Axtell.
The grid represents a landscape with two "sugar peaks". Sugar grows back over time.
Agents (@) wander looking for sugar. Each turn, an agent looks around (up to its vision limit), moves to the best unoccupied patch of sugar, harvests it, and burns a fixed amount of sugar (metabolism). If their sugar drops to zero, they die.
Color indicates wealth: Orange (Poor), Yellow (Rich), Blue (Wealthy). Watch population dynamics fluctuate around the resource carrying capacity.
