Physarum (Slime Mold)

A particle-based simulation of Physarum polycephalum (slime mold) foraging behavior, based on Jeff Jones' model.
Thousands of independent agents move around a grid. They continuously deposit a chemical trail (pheromone).
Agents have three sensors (front, front-left, front-right) and steer towards the highest concentration of the chemical.
Meanwhile, the chemical slowly diffuses (blurs) and decays (evaporates) over time. This feedback loop naturally forms complex, highly efficient, self-organizing transport networks, remarkably similar to fungal mycelium or city road maps.
