Falling Sand Physics

A cellular automaton simulating granular physics. Every step, sand particles (*) try to fall straight down.
If the space directly below is occupied, they attempt to slide diagonally down-left or down-right. This simple local rule set perfectly captures the macroscopic behavior of forming dunes, avalanches, and the natural angle of repose.
Two spouts at the top continuously drop sand into the environment.
